When children learn to practice using roots, prefixes, and suffixes, they gain tools for creating longer, more sophisticated sentences. Even geometry concepts can tie in here. Describing shapes and their positions requires expanded sentences: “The blue triangle sits next to the red square” gives more information than “Shapes are here.”
The beauty of this approach is that it meets children where they are developmentally. Kindergarteners don’t need complex grammar rules.
